class 11/22/13

Today Mr. Schick was not here today so Mr. Torres substituted today. (he is really quiet).  We continued playing the game that we left off of yesterday. This game actually teaches us a lot about foreign countries and how different their problems are from ours!

11/21/13

Today in class, we played a game that contributed with countries that have problems like pollution or finding businesses that would work for them.  In that game the goal was to help as many people as possible and use your brain to find the source of the problem and using that knowledge to help the villagers solve it.  We also got to take weird pictures with an Emmy award.  Not sure where it came from but it was pretty cool to hold.

Thursday, November 21, 2013

11/20/13

In class we went over our tests questions.  Mr. Schick thought that giving us questions on the test that we really needed to think about was a good idea.  apparently it wasn't.  Some people did bad on the test because we didn't read the questions as we were supposed to.  We wrote the correct answers on our test as well so it would sink into our brain.

Today in class while I finished my "World Leaders" test, everyone else was reading articles about honestly i have no idea.  Today's class seemed really short probably since shortly after I finished my test the bell had rung and everyone was running out the door.  Our class was once again, extremely quiet.

review for test

             Today we reviewed all of the questions that were going to be on our upcoming test.  We learned more about NATIONALISM- (when the people of a certain country, think that their country is the best country out there) while jasmine taught our class.  I was so proud of our class because for the first time this quarter, we actually got "into" what we were talking about.  It's not surprising that we started actually talking when politics came up!  I think Mr. Schick was proud of us too.  We watched a short clip from a movie.  The main character was an anchor for the news.  They asked him why he thought America was the best country ever.  At first he went along with everyone else's reasons, but then he clicked.  He ranted on how we are NOT the best country.  I really liked it.  All around I think our class did so well today with Jasmine as our teacher.

class

today in class we learned about Religion in different countries and how it affects wars or conflicts.  We talked about languages and what country speaks what language.  I thought this was a fun class for some reason.  I just really enjoyed it.  Anyway we discussed those different topics and how important those things are to human geography.  I also learned that the country next to Spain doesn't speak Spanish! I thought that was interesting too.

test reveiw

   Today in class, we went over all the tests questions.  Our class was pretty talkative today compared to the previous classes which is good.  Mr. Schick was "messing" with the shadow today which was hilarious.  We went over population pyramids, the differences between immigrants and emigrants and some other topics that we should have been talking about in health class.

class 10/9/13

      Today in class we went over our tests.  Mr. Schick told our class that we needed to participate more often in class.  The grades our class have been getting are fairly worse than the other freshman classes because of our lack or participation.

Class today

12 years ago on this very day, history was made.  Everyone knows this as the terrorist attack on 9/11.  Since it seemed appropriate to talk about 9/11 today in class, that is what the first half of the class was about.  Mr. Schick was telling us what he was doing the day of the attack and the reactions of the people around him when he had found out.  He happened to be teaching at John Carroll that day.  My class and I, don't remember any part of this because we were all around the age of 2 when it happened.  After talking about 9/11, we talked how american fast food restaurants that are popular in China and Japan, have changed their culture.  We also talked about this huge KFC and McDonald's restaurant in China.

Shift Happens

  Today in class, we watched "fun fact" videos and discussed what each fact meant since they were kind of confusing.  Thank goodness we went over all of that because I wouldn't have known what each one meant.

1.  25% of India's smartest kids, is more than to entire U.S population!
I chose this as one of my facts to write about because, It amazes me that so many people live in that country!  When I was younger, I used to think The United States had the biggest population on this earth.  I find it interesting that India has the amount of people that it does and is still growing!

2.  1 in 4 workers have been with their employer for less than a year, and 1 in 2 have been there less than 5 years.
i thought this was interesting because Mr. Schick was talking about how people used to get a job and keep it for almost the rest of their lives unless they find a better one etc.  I think that when I am old enough to start working, I probably will have a lot of different employers and jobs over my lifetime which is the main reason i picked this fact to write about.

3. 1 out of 6 couples in America met online!
I think that this was not only interesting but weird.  You don't even know the "real" person you are talking to which makes no sense to me.  anyways, I chose this last fact because I thought it was another good one to write about.

Steven "teaches" the class

    In class yesterday, Steven was our teacher.  He was really confused about what to say and what to "teach" us.  The class had to help him out.  It was so funny watching Steven attempt to teach the class.  Most of the time, he had no idea what to talk about or what questions to ask us.  Towards the end of class, he started getting better with the questions.  Mr. Schick thought that Steven's "teachings" were hilarious.  It has been one of the most exciting and funny classes I have had so far!

Tuesday, September 3, 2013

vocab discussion

   Today in class, we went over the vocab words that were assigned the night before.  When Mr. Schick would ask the class questions about the vocab words, 99% of the time we never answered, participated, or even just raised our hand to try answering the questions.  Mr. Schick wasn't too happy about this.  He told us that if we didn't start participating in class, that we would have to start writing essays.  I would rather not do that, so i hope that the class, including myself, start participating more in class.

my human geo class

   I like my human geo class because my teacher, Mr. Schick, is really funny and nice.  He is already one of my favorite teachers. My classmates are all really nice and I love them all.  I know already that this will be a really fun class!  I like how Mr. Schick always jokes around with us.  The teachers I had before didn't even take the time to get to know us.  Our class seems quiet but all of us are really loud even though we don't show it all the time.  In general I really like our teacher and our class so I'm looking forward to a fun year with this class!

Human Geo, First few days of John Carroll

     My first day here at John Carroll was awesome!  I made a bunch of new friends and had fun doing it.  The classes here are are bigger but more efficient than the classes at my middle school.  The teachers here are nicer and are more involved with the class too which I really love about this school.  My first day in the cafeteria was weird because my friends and I only had 2 minutes at max to eat which frustrated me.  Other than that my first 2 days here have been great.  The only downsides I have run into so far was that my locker is on the 3rd floor and it is like an oven up there, and walking into the wrong classes etc. I quickly figured out that I love my advisory class and my teacher, Mr. Scholl.  My favorite class so far is my health class although, I didn't think I would even like health because it doesn't really interest me.

Having sports after school is fun to do with your friends but tiring all at the same time.  Since I am playing with the girls varsity soccer team, we do a lot of running and exercising which is exhausting after a long day of school.  I pulled my quad not too long ago and I have been seeing the trainers for it.  I absolutely love them both!  They use what is called "STEM" on my quad. It sends electricity through your muscles to loosen them up and heal them faster.  It tingles!  All together I have had an amazing experience here so far and I look forward to the next 4 years here!
